President Trump, I’d Like to Introduce You to My Sisters

In the wake of the horrifying attempt by the deep state to blow the head off the former president and current candidate on live television, there has been a lot of use of the word Providence.

And you can believe that God‘s hand was absolutely at work on July 13 at 6:11 PM For nothing good in this world happens, but through God’s Divine Providence.

Am I saying that Donald Trump is somehow anointed, a katechon, or destined to save the world from the dregs of satanism? Not quite (although that may be the case after all).

But somehow, in the aftermath of that day, an incredible story I have been meaning to share, got lost in the shuffle of my brain’s index.

There is a beautiful and old saying.

“Day and night on Carmel’s Height, someone is always praying we for you!”

Many of you by now know of my love and admiration – one could almost call it a childlike devotion – to the cloistered nuns of the Carmelite order worldwide.

For centuries, the women who have entered the walls of Carmel have devoted their lives to praying for the Church and the world nonstop. Quiet, unassuming women in simple brown habits wake in the middle of the night to pray. They rise early to pray. They pray before Our Lord in the Tabernacle and the Monstrance. They pray in the fields. They pray together. They pray alone. I guarantee they even pray in their sleep.

I am blessed to live near not one but two Carmels here in Texas. The priests of my parish serve the sisters offering a daily Mass according to the ancient rites (a TLM). Occasionally, I find myself at the Carmel instead of the parish, because the time of the Mass works better for my schedule.

For the past four years now, at the end of every Mass at this particular Carmel, the sisters rise from behind the great, pull a cord that draws closed the curtain, and begin anew in their prayer. They pray deliverance prayers – essentially prayers of exorcism – that have been adapted for use by the laity. They begin with St. Patrick’s Breastplate and continue on. If one is inclined to remain in the chapel in his own prayer of thanksgiving, one can hear the sisters add a prayer asking God to protect:

“President Trump, America, and the Church!”*

Every. Single. Day.

When I first heard the sisters offer this prayer in early 2021, I wondered aloud to my wife, whether the cloister had prevented them hearing the news that he was no longer the president. As time went on, I began to realize that whether they knew or not, I certainly wasn’t going to tell them and that a prayer is a prayer. Surely the sisters know how to pray a million times better than I do.

God heard the prayers of these holy virgins. He listens favorably to the brides of His Son. I know their prayers alone would be enough to incline Our Lord to send His angels to tilt the head of President Trump on the stage that day at just the right moment. And I thank God for that!

I pray for the conversion on Donald Trump. I hope he comes to learn about the Carmelites. I beg God to move his heart to fight, fight, fight for all innocent human life.

And I know that no matter what, someone is always praying for him, and for me, and for you.

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, pray for us!

*A previous versions of this post had the words, “and the world” instead of “and the Church”. Thank you to reader DM for pointing out the error.

The Joe-Bot to Speak

AI is a hell of a thing, folks. Stay tuned.

Where’s Joe?

Your guess is as good as I am but if the rumors are true, I’m happy he got to make his big boy press conference.

Oligarchy Much?

Folks, I’m 46 years-old. This is 100% true for me.

Also, I was right three weeks ago. If my political instincts are correct, look for Pedo Joe to be forced *from office* within the week. This will give the Cackler the supposed benefit of incumbency and further help to memory-hole the disaster that Joe is.

You heard it here first.

Happy Coincidences, American Music, and Mom

I’ve been traveling this past week. It’s a road trip I took with my mother-in-law and my son. Just the three of us. She had a few things she wanted to visit and I happened to be free. She knows I’m game for these sorts of things and we just have so much fun together.

It is a blessing to have a mother-in-law who is truly like one’s mom especially when you can’t see your mom because of distance. I like to think of myself as Ruth. “…for whithersoever thou shalt go, I will go.”

So first up was Kansas. We had been invited to the first profession of a young woman from the parish in a trad convent. I met Cardinal Burke afterwards but did not have the chance to whisper, “Come on man, do the right thing…” also, he’s looking frail FYI.

Then on to Kansas City where we saw among other things the Harry Truman house.

Then came St. Louis. Here we toured churches and had dinner with a beloved blogger – St. Louis Catholic.

Then we headed to Indianapolis where we attended the Lifesite News Trad Eucharistic Revival. I approached Fr. Altman after Mass and was taken aback that he remembered me from our last meeting a year ago. I guess I make an impression.

Then we drove to Georgetown, KY. Why? There’s a TLM there. Silly.

This morning we set out on a 14 hour drive back to Texas. Midway through the day I asked my wife the following:

“Don’t think we can push through today, can you book us somewhere in Memphis area?”

I quickly got a confirmation email for a hotel in… Oxford, MS.

For the uninitiated (or those who don’t care) Oxford is nowhere near Mississippi. I put the address of the hotel into my navigator and hilarity ensued.

The route took us off the interstate around Jackson, Tennessee and south over local roads for damn near three hours.

The cool thing is that this is one of those experiences, but I did not ask for, did not want, and yet would not trade for anything.

If it had not been for this felicitous, turn of events, we never would’ve met Zoe, the Sophomore at Ole Miss who’s studying to be a speech pathologist. Her five older siblings all needed speech therapy but she didn’t so she felt like she should give something back. And she’s doing that by waitressing over the summer at a diner serving creole and soul food. Good soul food.

On our drive in we crossed the Tallahatchie Bridge. My mother-in-law recommended we listen to an old classic and so I share it with you now.

Tomorrow it’s up and at ‘em by 6:30 so we can hit Mass in Cabot, AR before driving weeeeeeeeee… all the way home.

God bless!

Travels and Churches

Continuing my travels this week…

Here’s a picture of the inside of the dome of the Cathedral of St. Louis, St. Louis, MO.

Magnificent.
