St. Lawrence, Archbishop Vigano, and the Truth Which Sets Us Free

By now you have no doubt heard that Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano has finally (finally!) stated what we have known for some time – that Jorge Bergoglio is an antipope – and for the reason that not a few of us have been shouting for a while; that being that Pope Benedict XVI never validly abdicated the papal throne.

Please do read it. It is a beauty.

Today is also the feast of St. Lawrence, Archdeacon of the Roman Pontiff Sixtus II, who met one of the most gruesome ends for a follower of the Lord. Plenty had been martyred by his day yet it was Lawrence’s martyrdom of which St. Augustine is said to have remarked, “At the death of Lawrence, all of Rome became Christian.”

Fr. Z. has a piece about the “Tears of St. Lawrence” AKA the Perseid Meteor Shower that happens this time every year. Please check that out as well.

Lawrence died with the most epic sense of humor, born out of such intense love for Christ. I have called upon his intercession many times while hovering over my grill in the burning Texas heat.

This morning I was blessed to attend a sung Mass in a church named for St. Lawrence. The parking ticket from the Harrisburg meter maids was totally worth it (he said with a wry smile).

St. Lawrence was slowroasted for his testimony to the Truth. And the “wheat falling to the ground certainly bore much fruit,” as Our Lord foretold it would. Funny how that happens.

Archbishop Vigano? I doubt he’ll end up on a gridiron but we’ve all known of his treatment at the hands of the “cabal”.

I will leave you with the words of the collect from his Mass, which I find particularly both poignant and amusing for this comedian-martyr.

“Grant us, we beseech Thee, almighty God, to extinguish the flames of our sins, as Thou didst grant St. Lawrence to overcome the fires of his tortures.”
