My work has taken me to military installation adjacent to Arlington National Cemetery. Out of respect I haven’t taken any pictures.

May all the faithful departed rest in peace, through the mercy of God. Amen.

Today; I was privileged to witness the marriage of two young people and I’d like you to keep them in your prayers. I’ve known the bride for many years – in fact, since she was a babe. She is the daughter of friends of ours and we have been going to the beach as families together for many years. The young man? He started coming to the beach a few years ago as the friend of one of the bride’s brothers. He is the (and I hate this word) nicest young man I’ve ever met. He’s solid. He’s got his head screwed on right. He’s ready for marriage.

Here’s the backstory. He pursued his bride for several years. She wasn’t quite ready. He persisted. I used to think, “This poor guy… I want him to win. I want the good guy to win in the end.”

Today, he did.

And today, they said “I do.”

May they live to see their children’s children unto the third generation.

God bless the new family!

I look forward to meeting their baby next summer at the beach.

Any King of the Hill fan certainly knows Chuck Mangione – the flugelhorn player of 1979’s fame who famously appeared as himself, secretly living in a Mega-Lo Mart in Arlen, TX for years on that show.

Mangione died on the 22nd.

Always be prepared to be judged.

May he rest in peace.

Safely on the ground with my family. Now to find a Latin Mass. kidding, I already looked all that up ahead of time.
