Don’t Let Up on This Please.

In the past week I have had a number of people ask me where I stand on the situation with the SSPX.

I am hesitant to answer simply because most of the people asking are not anywhere near up to speed on the actual nuts and bolts of the situation.

But I have to start with this. And I urge anyone reading to ponder this long and hard and not to let up until someone gives an answer.

What does it mean to be excommunicated by men who have publicly stated that 1) All religions are a path to God, 2) All men are saved, and 3) There is no hell?

Either these men – Bergoglio, Prevost, Tucho, et al. do not believe their earlier PUBLICLY PROFESSED statements or they do. If they do, then excommunication means NOTHING. If they do not, it seems to me that they must immediately rescind those earlier statements.

How can you say that Orthodox, Protestant, Jew, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Athesit, and Agnostic are all saved without the need for conversion or adherence to the Catholic faith, but a relatively small group of men professing the Catholic faith who, for some reason or another recognize you as the Vicar of Christ, are not?

A bishop in Germany just said today that he routinely gives Holy Communion to Lutherans. James Martin routinely denies Scripture and Tradition. A lesbian witch dresses as a bishop and gives her blessing. All of these are A-OK but the community that wishes to continue to hand on the authentic faith are excommunicated. But, principle of non-contradiction here, we’ve established that this means nothing.

Explain it if you can but I place no stock in any answer that does not begin with a reconciliation of these two positions.

And still the only answer most people will give me is, “But he’s the pope and he said to stop so there.”

Perhaps it’s time you seriously examined the base premise.
