Daily Devotional

Well, it’s still August and your humble blogger is still at it. I’ve been busy of late. Traveling again tomorrow so prayers are most appreciated – not just for the travels but for a number of things. my son is taking a test on Saturday so I’m praying he does exceptionally well. There’s still a bit of outstanding schoolwork left from last year so I’m praying we get that done soon. The AC went out in one of my cars so I’m praying that can be fixed quickly and cheaply. And I’m sick. I have the immune system of a horse so it’s shocking when I come down with something. The ivermectin seems to be helping but it’s still annoying so I’m praying that Our Lady, Health of the Sick, will obtain robust health for me from her Divine Son.

I thought I’d share a litany with you that I pray every morning. It is the Litany of the Most Holy Name of Jesus. Remember, His Holy Name is the only Name by which we may be saved. He has given us to call upon Him by Name. We should always utter His Name with greatest love and tender devotion. And we should always bow our heads when we do so.

So wake up, fall to your knees, and with love, say His Name again and again. Call upon His Name when you are distressed. Call upon His Name when you give Him thanks. Call upon His Name in every moment of the life He graciously gives you.

O Jesus, meek and humble of Heart, hear us!

Turn Me Over

Today is the feast of St. Lawrence, patron of cooks and comedians.

His dying words, “Turn me over, I’m done on this side,” remains, after 17 centuries, the greatest comedic line ever uttered. Absolute balls, this guy. And you thought the Holy Ghost doesn’t boost your testosterone. Silly. I pray for a line that perfect when the moment comes if I am ever martyred for the faith.

So I’ll be grilling this evening and cracking jokes with my kids.

St. Lawrence. Pray for us!

For Gay Summer Colds

Got a gay summer cold coming on?

Ask your doctor, come to think of it, don’t ask your doctor. I haven’t seen one in years.

The blue Solo cup is full of flavor drops (gin and tonic).

Interesting…

Could be the dormition of the war.

Could be the formation of the human race.

Can you tell it’s the dog days of summer and I’m stretching to keep up with posting?

Prayers all around.

Know Anyone Looking for Work?

August 7 is the feast of St. Cajetan, founder of the Theatine order and, from what I’ve been told, a special patron of those seeking employment. You may know him by the Italian of his name – St. Gaetano. Either way, it’s never a bad idea to seek the intercession of so great a saint.

And offer one for me if you remember. Gratzie.

Transfiguration of Our Lord

Blessed feast to everyone!

Remember, the same Lord who showed forth His glory in a brief moment to Peter, James, and John on the mountain is also He Who veils Himself under the appearance of bread for love of us.

The post-communion from the Mass of the Transfiguration sums it up.

“Præsta, quǽsumus, omnípotens Deus: ut sacrosáncta Fílii tui Transfiguratiónis mystéria, quæ sollemni celebrámus offício, purificáta mentis intellegéntia consequámur.”

“Grant, we beseech Thee, almighty God, that by the understanding of our minds made pure, we may grasp the mystery of the Transfiguration of Thine only-begotten Son, which we celebrate by these solemn rites.”
