It was actually a relatively easy fix too. Thank goodness for our plumber – a man I have only had to call a few times over the years but who I am glad to know. Say a prayer for him if you have a moment.
When a pipe breaks. As you’re going to bed. On a Friday. At midnight. True story.
What I also love is when you ask St. Rita for reconciliation with a family member you haven’t heard from in three years and he actually replies to a text.
I’ve got a plumber on speed dial and the Saint of the impossible too!
Dei Gratias!
I had intended to write tonight asking for prayers for a special intention of mine and I still ask for those prayers. Please, if you read this, ask St. Rita to intercede for my intention. She knows what it’s about. And thank you.

But before I got to writing, I got a call from a young man who is a friend of mine. He asked if I could come and sit with him. He recently got out of the Marine Corps and tonight, he received word that another of his comrades committed the sin of suicide.
He tells me the stats are at 44 a day. A DAY!
I am starting to wonder whether the US service branches are demonically oppressed. This is not the first of his friends to commit suicide.
Either way, this has to end.
Young men are going off to serve their country. Brave men. Strong and true. And something is happening to them. This particular deceased was 21 years-old.
Young men are killing themselves and it must end.
I’ve had my own experience and I’ve written about it before. My older brother took his life during the Coof lockdowns. I will never understand it but at the end of the day I just kind of miss my brother even if I want to kill him for what he did.
So, prayers all around today, please. Pray for my intention for sure. I could use it. But pray for my friend and for the repose of the soul of his friend and for an end to this demonic nonsense.
Lord Jesus, have mercy on me, a sinner!

I took my kids to see a one-man production of The Screwtape Letters tonight. Having taught the book for ten years, I knew every line before it was spoken.
The takeaway (as always):
STAY CONFESSED.
For many years I have had a particular devotion to St. Rita of Cascia, patron saint of impossible causes. Every nine days I begin anew the novena in her honor for my own intentions and any that others ask of me. Here is the link to the novena prayers I use (from the National Shrine of St. Rita).

A reader in Australia, who’s acquaintance I am pleased to make and who has not (miraculously) fallen off the bottom of the earth, recently wrote me regarding homeschooling. He and his wife are committed to the idea and will be forging an incredible path forward as a family. Keep them in your prayers.
As I wrote to him earlier today, there are three things to keep in mind.
1) God gave you and your wife alone the specific Grace to do this (educate your children). 2) Even on days when it feels like no formal learning is taking place, your kids will learn more just by being with you. 3) The alternative is diabolical.
As the old song says, “See you in September!”
