Midpoint of Lent

Happy Laetare!

I hope your priest’s vestments were the manliest of pinks today. At my parish they drape a purple cloth over the front of the altarpiece during Lent to cover the image of the Last Supper depicted in relief there. Unfortunately whoever made the cloth also made a set of purple vestments from the same material. Ergo, our priests occasionally blend into the altar like a Vietnam-era soldier blending into the jungle. It’s interesting to say the least.

Ah yes, halfway there…

This Lent has not been without its ups and downs for me. The fast had been going very well until it wasn’t. I fell off that wagon a few days ago and struggled to get back on. But tomorrow is a new day and, by the grace of God, I will get back after it.

Otherwise, even if you’ve had great success this Lent, now is the time to double down. Pay careful attention to the Epistle and Gospel daily (and of course the orations which are so moving and poignant during these days).

Pray for me as I pray for each of you.

Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, pray for us!
