It is October, the month of the Rosary. In fact, this post is dated October 7th, the feast of the Most Holy Rosary. This reminded me earlier this evening while praying the rosary with my kids that there is a prayer to St. Joseph we need to say after the rosary in this month. Many of you know it by heart. I include a translation below.
To thee, O blessed Joseph, do we come in our tribulation, and having implored the help of thy most holy Spouse, we confidently invoke thy patronage also. Through that charity which bound thee to the immaculate Virgin Mother of God and through the paternal love with which thou embraced the Child Jesus, we humbly beg thee to graciously regard the inheritance which Jesus Christ has purchased by his Blood, and with thy power and strength to aid us in our necessities.
O most watchful Guardian of the Holy Family, defend the chosen children of Jesus Christ; O most loving father, ward off from us every contagion of error and corrupting influence; O our most mighty protector, be propitious to us and from heaven assist us in our struggle with the power of darkness; and, as once thou didst rescue the Child Jesus from the supreme peril of His life, so now protect God’s Holy Church from the snares of the enemy and from all adversity; shield, too, each one of us by thy constant protection, so that, supported by thy example and thy aid, we may be able to live holy lives, die happy deaths, and to obtain the joys of eternal life in heaven. Amen.

My day:
I woke up at 5:59 AM to pray the Angelus (in Latin because the devil hates that). Strike one, I suppose.
I stayed awake and brewed a full pot of black coffee. It’s one of those Cuisinart drip coffee pots. It’s about 16 years old and likely sucks electricity from the outlet like a firehose in reverse. It isn’t fair trade. It’s Folgers. And it is good. I dropped an ice cube from the ice maker in my massive freezer into said coffee so I could drink it quickly. Silly Western conveniences… Strike two?
I got into my SUV. It’s black and absorbs a lot of sunlight so I had the air on max. It’s only 75 degrees here this morning but, comfort. I even ran the engine for about ten minutes while I smoked a cigarette on my porch. so the car would be nice and cool when I got in. Strike three.
I drove to a Latin Mass. And the strikes just keep on comin’! I left a trail of butts out the window so I could find my way home. It’s so “Hansel and Gretel” of me, I know. I prayed for the Church and my marriage to my wife who is a woman and our children who have no tattoos, no gender issues, and no social media. We had wanted to breed like rabbits but God had other plans. Strike. Strike. Strike.
I got home and stepped on a bug in my driveway. It was gross and would probably have caused my daughter to shriek had she seen it. I made an appointment for a contractor to come and quote me a price on a massive HVAC system for a few rooms that had been added onto my house by the previous owners. Strikety-strike strike.
I ran out of smokes and drove the SUV a half-mile to the pharmacy for more. I could’ve walked but why?
I test drove a 22 year old gas guzzler around mid-day (after the second Angelus, of course). My son just got his permit and I think it would be a good way for him to drive to daily Latin Mass while learning how to work on an internal combustion-gas powered engine. More strikes.
I drove my wife to the airport so she could fly away on a beautiful jet on a work trip. Oh that AC is sooooo nice.
I came home, dug a ribeye out of my garage freezer, and cooked it up on my grill. Oh, that’s right. I have two freezers. Hehe. The cow that gave us this delight probably farted a lot. To be fair, I didn’t cook it too much. A good vet could have saved her.
I prayed the third Angelus.
I prayed my rosary, my novenas, and my litanies.
I contemplated tomorrow and my carbon footprint… and I laughed.
And I thanked God He gave me this life.
You were saying something about earth worship and one-world government, Antipope Bergoglio?
The palace intrigue surrounding the vacating of the Speakership of the House of Representatives is fascinating to me. Still, I am reminded of the Psalm:
“Put not your trust in princes: In the children of men, in whom there is no salvation.”
Ps. 145: 2-3
First… Today was the feast of the great Saint Therese of Lesieux, or as my missal calls her, “Teresa of the Infant Jesus”. See below. I hope she showered you with roses today. I didn’t get any but that’s cool.

As always, friends, I continue to pray for your intentions in my St. Rita novena (another saint who shares the rose as a symbol). I hope you also keep my intentions in your prayers. Of late I have come to realize some important lessons. As one begins the novena prayers (or at least the specific set I use), one asks the Holy Ghost to guide us in forming our intentions. In others words, I pray that the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity keep me from seeking after things that are not of God’s Will. Rather, I ask Him to help me to pray for the things that are God’s Will. And of late I have begun to realize that perhaps some of my own intentions (in the offing for years now some of them) are simply not a part of God’s plan for me. Don’t get me wrong, they are not bad things per se. I think what has helped me in this knowledge is something I read from St. Therese years ago. I want to give credit but do not have the book in front of me. Suffice to say that it was in a book called Fulton Sheen’s Saint Therese.
The book is a collection of talks that Sheen gave to a Carmel once. One thing that stands out in my mind is his description of Therese and her child-like love of God. It seems that the Little Flower once remarked that she “wanted to be as a plaything in the hands of God”. In other words, she saw herself as a rag doll given to a child on Christmas. If that child was pleased to make the rag doll the center of their universe, then so be it. If, however, that child felt like tossing the rag doll into a toy box never to be remembered, then that was also fine for her. The important thing was that she belong to God.
Sometimes I can really identify with that rag doll…
In other news, apparently Cardinal Burke, et al. held a press conference? They must not have said the words I was hoping to here or I would have heard it by now.
Also, the antipope blathered on about the ratification of adultery and sodomy again today. Also, water is wet.
More to come.
St. Therese, pray for us!
