I’m Going to Start Issuing my own Motu Propria

Or is that Motibus Propriis? My in-house Latinist (my best friend and drinking Buddy) insists on the latter.

Check this out from the gang at CNA:

“Pope Francis (sic) Changes Canon Law on Opus Dei and Any Future Personal Prelatures”

The logical conclusion to which I am drawn is this. If the “changes to Canon Law” now place the Prelature on the level of a Society of Apostolic life, does that mean Opus Dei has been knocked down a peg or has the FSSP, another Society of Apostolic Life, been elevated?

Furthermore this:

“It also further defined the role of the prelate as a “moderator endowed with the faculties of an ordinary’.”

This could be nothing but it’s not. Looks like the Fraternity might not ever get a bishop as they’ve so long been promised.

Developing.

Prayer Time (Again)

How did you observe the anniversary of the death of Saaaaiiiinttt Paul VI? JK. It was Transfiguration Sunday around here.

What good is having a trad audience if you can’t ask your friends to pray for an intention every now and then?

Ever thankful that so many of you read my daily musings, I ask you all who read this to lift up in prayer a friend of mine who is going through a particularly rough spot.

Thank you in advance!

Our Lady of Victory, pray for us!

By the By…

I am not at World Youth Day right now.

Instead I’ve spent the past week doing hard manual labor in blistering 109° weather. Building a fence (not a bridge). I’ve also been to Latin Mass every day, confession twice, read some Fathers and Doctors, prayed 15 decades every day, and am generally living my life as a man, a husband, and a father. Toss in caring for a sick wife and pulling double-duty in her absence while she recovers and you’ve got yourself a busy Harvey.

As for the youth in my life – my two teenage children? I figured it was better to teach them the Catholic faith than to ship them off to Lisbon to here a bunch of freemasonic faggots drone on about encounters and synodality and encounters of synodality. There is another “youth”, come to think of it. A young man of 22 whom I taught a few years ago. He heard I was building a fence and cheerfully volunteered to help. “I wouldn’t have made it through high school without you,” he said. He’s too kind but his assistance is invaluable. Perhaps I taught him something truly valuable – like how to attain heaven; but I think that credit belongs to his wonderful parents.

Oh Jesus, pierced and nailed to the wood of the cross for love of me, an ungrateful sinner, have mercy on us!

So the next WYD is where again? Hell? Yeah, I’ll pass on that one too.

Blessed Mother, Queen of the Church, pray for us!

My Queen’s Flag Was Raised Today

Thanks to the good folks at tradflags.com I now have the flag of my Queen flying high above my front yard (just below the flag of Her Son, Our King)!

The Sacred Heart flag is not from Trad Flags but rather from a woman who sold them last year. Either way, I am happy to fly these two magnificent emblems above my home and to ask for the protection and blessing of both the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts.

Also, don’t neglect the Five First Saturdays devotion this Saturday August 5.

Prayers Working, Send More Prayers!

Friends, two nights ago I posted a prayer request for a loved one who is suffering from Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.

The patient, I am happy to report, is improving slowly.

Please continue to pray, especially through the intercession of Sr. Wilhelmina Lancaster. My family and I recently visited her remains. This was one of the most moving experiences of my life, and I have seen other incorruptibles before.

We’re asking Our Lord for a full and complete and rapid recovery and restoration to good health.

Thank you!

Oh Howie, You Make Me Laugh!

Did you see this one?

It seems our old friend, Howard Hubbard, Bishop Emeritus of Albany, has “married”. And here’s the kicker. It’s a chick!

Frank Walker really has to put up a disclaimer on some of his headlines. I almost fell off my chair laughing.

Background: Hubbard became Bishop of Albany in 1977 at the age of 39! He was named to the post by Pope Paul VI (remember him? The saint?). He held that post, systematically destroying the Church for 37 years. After his retirement all kinds of fun stuff emerged about his role in covering up sodomy and various other forms of sex crimes. I remember as a kid, my parents reading about him on a regular basis in papers like The Wanderer and asking, “When is John Paul going to remove him?!” Little detail: He was not removed. It seemed back then as now that no crime was too great, no heresy too significant to sack a bishop. Of course today we have the handful of actual good bishops removed or threatened for the sin of clinging to the Deposit of Faith. Hello, Bishop Strickland!

Mother of Priests, pray for us!

And now this man who never held Church teachings in very high regard before announced that he has once again dispensed himself from the Church’s law – this time regarding marriage. Another little detail: Observing the Church’s laws on matrimony is one of the PRECEPTS of the Church.

But back to the original observation.

Do we really believe this octogenarian is in a hetero-normative relationship? I’m only using that word because I hope to God there’s no sexual congress involved. I’m also vomiting a little as we speak. This would be like hearing that Paul Lynde or Jm J. Bullock were straight. Sorry, my Youtube feed recently suggested a bunch of old episodes of Hollywood Squares.

Anyway… The current bishop of Albany, Edward Scharfenberger says he is “processing this” but does clarify that the Church does not recognize the marriage and that Hubbard remains a bishop. My suggestion? Absolutely do not recognize the marriage AND laicize this creep yesterday.

Christ’s Church and the Appearance of Death

Tonight I would like to share with you a beautiful image that a dear friend sent to me.

I have admired the work of Hans Holbein the Younger for many years, in particular his Portrait of Sir Thomas More which I have seen in the Frick Collection in Manhattan.

This painting is a bit different however. Take a look.

The Body of the Dead Christ in the Tomb, Hans Holbein the Younger, 1522

It is striking to me. And since this is a subject for meditation, I shall say no more other than that the Body of Christ (the Church) will have to suffer as He did. I would say we’re on the Road to Calvary already.
